Review of The Memory Keeper's Daughter (2008) by Chris K — 07 Nov 2008
The novel was very moving, touching, thought-provoking. . . The film had great moments, great images and acting but lacked the 'heart' of the book. The horrendous wigs, funky special effects and strange piecing together of the story elements brought you out of the 'story' too often.
The acting by Gretchen Mol, Emma Watson, Dermot Mulroney and the actress who played older Phoebe was very commendable, but the cutting and pacing of the story left this lover of the novel a bit disappointed.
I hadn't realized Lifetime did the movie, or I would have just reread the book. With that said, Emma Watson is a very talented actress, as is Gretchen Mol - and she's very easy on the eyes.
