Review of The Memory Keeper's Daughter (2008) by Lain H — 28 Feb 2009
SUCH a sad story. I bought the book...and never read it. Planned on it from day one...but just never got around to it. Then, I saw the DVD on the shelf at the library...and thought, "What the heck?".
So, I watched it before reading the book. Which is a big no-no of mine, but I couldn't help it. I don't have as much time for reading right now, as I do just watching a quick flick. Anyway....
Super sad story. Can't believe someone would do that sort of thing, with their OWN child. And to harbor that secret for SO long...your WHOLE life...and then on top of all things, carry it to the grave.
:( I was glad at least they could find out, since the child went to someone they knew and the father had all that stuff left behind in the drawer. I'm REALLY glad that at least the girl did have a wonderful life.
..not as messed-up as the son. But still, I think the father should never have done that. It's just wrong. People belong with their natural parents as often as is possible...as long as the parents are not seriously disturbed or uncapable somehow.
Alright...steppin' down off the soapbox. The movie was alright, though I can't judge too much since I haven't read the book. The book may have been a lot better. (Usually the case).
