Review of The Meg (2018) by Lara J — 13 Aug 2018
There's no need to go into this movie expecting it to be Citizen Kane, or even Jaws. You get exactly what you should expect of a movie with a massive supposedly extinct killer shark starring Jason Statham; an absolute blast of a summer blockbuster full of cheesy lines, jump scares, and a boatload of screaming shark bait.
Statham pulls off a great serious Badass of a hero, and is probably one of only a handful of people that could have done so for this film. He plays it serious when things get a little too silly, and makes you believe in the reality of the massive CGI-Fest.
The rest of our crew deal with some pretty terrible dialogue during their introductions, but once they get into the action, everyone has something good to contribute. I was alternately tense as hell and cracking up at the wonderfully absurd moments that make this movie so much fun.
The Meg is anything but Meh. The summer blockbuster you know you want, so eat your popcorn, and see it in IMAX if you can.
