Review of The Meg (2018) by Maddox J — 18 Aug 2018
This movie is at most, entertaining and has some interesting themes. The movie doesn't take itself too seriously, which is a great thing considering this film is about a prehistoric shark. The movie tries to create suspense rather than action, which it doesn't do the best at.
There is a lot of the film asking the audience for suspension of disbelief. *SPOILERS* It is shown at some point in the film that the crew had put a military-grade tracker on the "Meg", yet later in the film, they accidentally kill two other animals, somehow not knowing they weren't the creature they were after.
Also, there is more than one Megalodon, which kind of takes away the scare factor for me. But I GREATLY enjoyed the ending. The main character uses the top of a submarine (sharp part) to filet the Megalodon, and as it starts to bleed, several (much smaller) sharks begin to eat it, which felt like poetic justice to me.
Worth watching if you are really into sharks or prehistory I suppose, but your better off reading a Wikipedia article. And that's really saying something.
