Review of The Meg (2018) by Mike B — 15 Aug 2018
Silly and predictable with a heap of dopey goofiness thrown in for good measure. It's ARMAGEDDON in the ocean. A reluctant, damaged, highly skilled leader. A misfit, dorky crew of semi-lovable oddball losers.
Just as in PROMETHEUS, all the money in the world can't buy a serious, qualified crew. The acting of several of the sidekicks was subpar. Statham played the same guy he always plays. He is still in incredible shape for his age, which they made sure to show.
BTW -- Sharks don't have eyelids. Whoops. Cliché generic character types all had special clunky lines. The several audible countdowns made me laugh out loud. Multiple perfectly timed equipment failures didn't help either.
The rapping was a groaner. Don't think too much. Entertaining if you dim your bulb. Wait for the video. **/*****.
