Review of The Mechanic (1972) by Charles S — 12 Feb 2008
One of my faves - Bronson plays an aging assassin for hire (also called a Hit-Man), whose life is intentionally austere. He seems to get all the zippadeedoodah he needs from surgically murdering people and getting paid money for it. And that's fine, we all need our special something, but things become more complex when the son of a regular client (a boss, not a target - he wouldn't be very good at his job if he has a regular target, would he?) figures out what he does and starts to follow him around like a homicidal puppy. The puppy is played by Jan-Michel Vincent, of Airwolf. Remember the awesome theme song for that show? "Air Wolf... the wolf of the air!!! If you see it, better get scared!!! Air Wolf, it's tough but fair!!! Air wolf, like a big flying bear!!" Good stuff.
Anyway, JMV gets a little too into CB's business, and fireworks ensue. Bronson does a great job playing the emotionally stunted man dedicated to what he sees as his one true calling. Recommended.
