John Wayne and Charles Bronson are two "Hollywood household heroes" (say that 3 times as fast as you can) that has yet to be explored in my DVDography. My cherry has now been popped with Bronson.

So, he is definitely an old school version of the Steven Seagal we know now. An awkward actor that reads lines terribly, sometimes not even speaking clearly and eyes of a zombie. Having said that, I love Seagal and now Bronson! I don't want good acting when I sign up for an action packed thriller.

So "The Mechanic" from 1972 was awesome and maybe because of Bronson's dead eyes. A killer, hired or not, shouldn't look like Ashton Kutcher or Tom Cruise. We need someone like Mr. Bronson.

The movie is dark, at times really dark, and an excellent excuse to root for the bad guy. One of the best action films from the best decade ever, the 70's, and I recommend for pure escapist entertainment.

I loved this one as much as "The Day of the Jackal" and there will be much more explorations into Charles Bronson's career!
