Review of The Maze Runner (2014) by Yash B — 15 Aug 2015
"The Maze Runner" is the latest attempt to bring a successful young adult novel to the big screen. As far as the adaptation is concerned, I really can't say much since I honestly never finished the book.
The parts I read were well done but I only read some of the beginning. Now that that's out of the way, let's focus on the movie as a movie. This movie has flaws in it's pacing but for the most part there are enough exciting parts to make it a great time to watch.
The premise is an original take on the dystopian future genre that's everywhere these days. It's also a very dark movie compared to what I expected. It's a movie that teenagers will eat up but really anyone can enjoy.
I really got into the premise and actually liked how the movie ended since it managed to get me pumped for the next one. The acting isn't the best, but it's good enough and never technically bad.
The end of the movie had a surprisingly emotional impact and that's when I knew that this wasn't just good, but great sci fi. I enjoyed this movie despite some minor dragging moments in which not a lot happens but for the most part it's a dark and engaging sci fi mystery.
