Review of The Maze Runner (2014) by Garrett F — 29 Dec 2015
Pretty solid effort all around. Story was solid. Acting solid. And it sure kept you guessing. Where did these kids come from? Why just kids and only males? Why the loss of memory? But most of all, why the maze? Why the monsters that only come out at night but are shut out during the day? Of course all those questions get answered in the final scene.
The kids are told at the end that this was all done to find a "cure." Of course finding the cure would not be easy, for how else can you have a nasty, scary dystopia movie with grotesque brain viruses, huge, nasty spider monsters, and a hyper complex maze that must have added at least a couple billion to the national debt, unless Bill Gates' kids were maze advocates with some serious handouts forthcoming. That was the only problem I had with the movie. How is a decimated planet going to come up with the resources to build and pay for a maze that is simply, well, amazing? Overall, great flick. I liked how it really kept you guessing, (I watched with no spoilers, just grabbed it off of HBO little aware of the movie's presence, even, and enjoyed).
