Review of The Maze Runner (2014) by Brendan N — 15 Jan 2018
I first watched this film thinking it was another Hunger Games clone, in some respects it is but not because of the storyline. The studios only commissioned this film after the Hunger Games success, James Dashner has a book series of 5 but the interesting side of this film is the concept and links to the book.
The cast is quite good but a lot of the mystery is skipped and this impacts the second and third book storylines, I'll give my thoughts on the sequel later on this week. This is one of the few clones that actually lowered the budget and took the chance to deliver a coherent, less the massive budget and it works very well.
The twist storyline is typical but it is still carefully delivered and the filmmakers clearly have no interest in splitting the books for profitability. Good film with focus on character and mystery. 13/01/2018.
