Review of The Maze Runner (2014) by Faris S — 06 Apr 2015
More or less, a mediocre-good dystopian teen franchise on the go (join the club). Better than Divergent, worse than Hunger Games. Fairly intriguing plot but main criticism is SPOILER Chuck's death = Rue's death.
It was so similar, it was laughable. Bad guy takes the shot, misses main character (everyone's seemingly safe), bad guy killed, then suddenly: Young friend was fatally hit. Original in Hunger Games, clichà (C) in Maze Runner.
The film holds too many elements to Hunger Games in the long run: evil, misleading president; young friend dies, the idea that the main character is a "game changer" (Divergent too), but I will be watching Scorch Trials as I am intrigued but if the second one shares resemblance to Catching Fire or even Insurgent, doubt I'll watch the finale.
