Review of The Matrix Revolutions (2003) by Peter N — 04 Aug 2012
The second film promised a solid finale, but unfortunately Revolutions completely fails to provide a satisfying conclusion to the series. One can't help but wonder if things were a bit rushed this time around due to the Wachowski Brothers' insistence on making the final two films back-to-back.
Building off the overwhelmingly complicated plot of the second film, things just keep getting more convoluted as the machines inch closer to their attack on Zion and Agent Smith continues his non-stop binge of copying himself onto every inhabitant of the Matrix.
The action sequences, including the climactic final showdown, seem slightly more bland this time around, but the battle for Zion at least provides some cool effects that haven't been seen up to this point in the story.
The end is supposed to inspire hope, but it destroys almost everything we love about the story along the way. Regardless of its numerous flaws, the film still manages to entertain, and serves as a slightly better than average sci-fi flick.
