Review of The Matrix Revolutions (2003) by Scott O — 13 Nov 2013
*THE OFFICIAL BETTER THAN DRIVE SEAL*.
(Spoilers).
Trilogies just never work. Look at it: Iron Man 3, Spider-Man 3, Jurassic Park 3. The 3rd film in every series seems to suck, or not be on par with the prequels. This is definitley the case here. The Matrix is a beloved franchise that has cause a great amount of influence in modern pop culture. The original was praised as a new, groundbreaking film. The sequel, while being panned by some people, generated decent reception. Here, the Wachowskis go full retard. It's pretty sad too. I kinda liked the first......
Following where Reloaded left off, Neo is in a subway.......for the first 20 minutes of the film. Meanwhile, Agent Smith is following a conquest of conquering the world by turning everyone into him, causing a (in computer terms) huge virus. While that portion seemed like it would be epic, it's ruined by terrible execution and terrible dialogue. So while all this is going on, Neo is trapped in the subway still. Then Trinity, Morpheus, and the crew find him. Hooray! Then, the film takes a terrible turn. We go into more boring back talk that has nothing to do with the Matrix. We head into Zion, and OH MY GOD! It gets boring.
Of course someone like Jed Groff would find this entertaining because the film relies heavily on CGI. It's prominent throughout the film. Also, we get Keanu Reeves going blind! Now, everything he sees is in some weird yellow color. After he kills an Agent, who (somehow managed to make it's way into a human host), he then goes the rest of the film blind as a bat. We get some boring talk about a war between the humans and robots. Then, we enter the Matrix to see what Smith is doing. Of course, he's doing his thing......but there is one scene I can never forget....and no, not cause it was good. You'll know once you see the film. It's horrendous.
Then, skip a few scenes of more boring side talk, and we finally get an action sequence. I can imagine Jed going, "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! LUK @ DA ROABAT!!!!" It's a terrible action sequence between humans and robots. It's a fail. People get cut to pieces and pointless people who we do not care about die. So, meanwhile, Trinity dies. It's fucked up how terribly cliche her last few words were. Neo travels to the robot's lair and a huge giant robot baby shows up. Yes, a huge giant robot baby shows up. After some stupid talk, involving some of Keanu Reeves' best acting since never, the giant robot baby sends Neo into the Matrix, where Smith has royally fucked up the world......just like what RT did to the forums. We can now relate to this film!
The setup to this fight is the reason it gets 2 points. It's dramatic, epic, and awesome. We finally know: This is where it ends! Then, the fight happened. While it wasn't bad, it was definitely not fun, or epic. The first 2 minutes of the fight was nice, but then, they started doing some Man of Steel flying. The CG was terrible, too. So, after a long, hard fought fight, Smith defeats Neo. Then, he says the best line in the entire film: "Everything that has a beginning, has an end." Then, it hits him. His end is near. That scene would have been great if it weren't for Reeve's stilted acting. So Neo kills Smith, which also kills Neo. Everyone in the Matrix is returned to normal. The black people live. The END! What a way to end a franchise!
2/10.
