Review of The Matrix (1999) by Marcus N — 20 Oct 2013
Morpheus "you think that's air your breathing".
Here's a film so extravagant that it shall be remembered as one of the purest sci-Fi films made. The wachowski's have done an excellent job with the cast, the script that keeps us utterly involved, and story is breathtaking and unique, all while entertaining us with full blown stylistic action, and camera shots and special effects that will blow your mind. 1999 was a year where The Matrix triumphed as a sleeper and made it's name among greats over night.
The story about Zion is a very creative, and extraordinary piece of art that is crafted into a brilliant sci-Fi action epic. The wachowski's looked to do something new and they accomplished more than that, the idea of being plugged into another world being someone else with the wide variety of things to do in the Matrix is mesmerizing and it's what makes us yearn more for.
The dialogue in this film is intriguing especially with the cast that is just fireworks in there roles. Laurence fishburne excels as Morpheus my personal favorite,he's mind bending and complex in such good ways that you'll forget it's even him and you should be moved and entertained simultaneously with his character. Keanu reeves and Carrie-ann moss are both reaches for me but none the less they reach and show off sleeper roles with pure action hero and a wise cracking gun shooting G.I jane type role. It's well selected and the results are awesome!
While this movie at its core goes for originality it's a little late. with it's script, visuals, action scenes, dialogue, and overall story it's one of the best executed films of this genre.
