Review of The Matrix (1999) by Luke E — 26 Nov 2013
I appreciate this film so much more upon finally giving it a second viewing. It's tightly structured, it has some of the best exposition of possibly any high-concept sci-fi or fantasy film I've ever seen, and it manages to deliver some really solid and (for the time) groundbreaking action sequences.
It's just a shame that both of its sequels didn't realize it was the structure and fluid exposition that made this movie work, and not the special effects and pop philosophy.
