Review of The Matrix (1999) by Felipe C — 19 Sep 2014
A wonderful premise, interesting action sequences, good visuals that are still on par to today's film and good filming that attempts Asian style filming is what the Matrix is. Yet, it is mired down by dull storytelling, boring one dimensional characters that are tied to a flat script and an unusual ineffective pace.
Keanu Reeves is the least compelling protagonist in a film that we do not care about and the only thing that is salvageable is Laurence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving's performance. The plot is predictable and to see high praise for this film feels overrated.
I give it a 3/5 stars for the premise, decent action scenes and visuals but the storytelling is dull and flat with the least compelling characters.
