Review of The Matrix (1999) by M. C — 12 Nov 2014
The Matrix is the type of film that engages your brain whilst also providing some great visceral thrills. The Wachowskis crafted one of the most unique science fiction films of all time with its engulfing premise and oddball characters with great talent from the likes of Laurence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving.
There's so many motifs thrown into the story that keep you engaged and the fight scenes serve the plot finely instead of simply being there for the sake of entertaining the teen crowd. It's a shame the sequels didn't come close to matching the genius of this and descended into mindless action because this could've become one of the best franchises of our time.
Nevertheless, we still have the first film which remains a great piece of cinema.
