Review of The Matrix (1999) by Nathan M — 29 Dec 2015
After nearly 10 years since my most recent viewing, I wasn't sure what to expect from one of my favorite movies from childhood, and I was pleased to see that it held up. The Wachowski's not only crafted an amazing world, but brought a wonderful visual style to the film.
Even if the sequels weren't able to match the level of this one, The Matrix proves that, at their best, the Wachowski's know how to build a world, balance the tension in a scene, craft an action sequence, and handle character development and mythology all at the same time.
Even if a few of the performances are a little stiff, the main cast understands what they're doing, and they sell the world of The Matrix. Both Weaving and Fishburne give wonderful performances. This is one of the best sci-fi action films of all time, and I'm in love all over again.
