Review of The Master of Disguise (2002) by Naische F — 07 Feb 2009
I really had low expectations for this and was completely blown away! Wow, Dana Carvey does an (even-better than Mike Myers) action/comedy picture! He plays a simple but kind waiter at a restaurant. Little does he know that he comes from a long distinguished line of master disguisers who battle crime.
James Brolin is great too as his father, especially in an early scene (looking like a great James Bond that he was once tested for in the early 1980s and who I am convinced looks more and more like Christian Bale when he has a beard).
Carvey treats us to a number of amazing disguises from Al Pacino's 'Scarface' to Robert Shaw from 'Jaws' to a very suave David Niven, too many to mention... We also get an excellent entertaining villain played by Brent 'Data' Spiner who never takes his role too seriously.
Jennifer Espositio plays her role too very well as Carvey's love interest and never interferes with the film's flow. Overall, a lot of people were dissapointed with this feature, but I really had a great time.
Definitely one that can be rewatched over and over again. Just have a good time and don't take this too seriously, and remember that it is a comedy! I had a feeling that a sequel was being planned, but never materialised after its lacklustre performance at the box-office.
