Review of The Mask of Zorro (1998) by Ken S — 25 Mar 2013
Martin Campbell directs this modern version of the Classic hero Zorro, with Anthony Hopkins appearing the original Don Diego De la Vega, and Antonio Banderas as his young protege who takes on the mantle of the Mask.
The film has a great sense of classic swashbuckling adventure in the best classic sense, good swordfighting, a morality play, fantastic stunts, and a sense of humor to boot. The film does a nice job of setting up the enemy of Zorros young and old, and perfectly ends the picture with each fighting his own nemesis, while also fighting for the greater good of California.
Good fun, as entertaining as the two classic "The Mark of Zorro" films from the Silent and Golden ages of Hollywood.
