Review of The Mask (1994) by David B — 14 Nov 2013
To say this was an excuse to use CGI effects are probably right but it's a fantastic funny film. The film is perfect for Jim Carrey, playing a somewhat loser, being tormented (but not much) by this boss and then putting on a mask to be a semi-anti hero, his wackyness and cartoony style are perfect but not forgetting Peter Greene as the roughless gang criminal Dorian Tyrel who brings the darkness into the film and is flawless in the part and Cameron Diaz on sexy form as the love interest.
The CGI cartoon effects are amazing and over the top making the film like a real-life comic. A great storyline and brilliantly directed. It is a film that relies on special effects but without it, it'd be pointless but still Jim Carrey carries the film and also his little pet dog Milo, steals some of the scenes towards the end, amazing dog in my opinion.
Everybody who is anybody will love this film, though some scenes may scare little kids it's a perfect family film. Also, the film has some great one-liners, still used today.
