Review of The Marine 2 (2009) by E P — 02 Jan 2010
"The Marine 2" is one of those straight-to-video, by-the-numbers action flicks that I would never bother checking out if it wasn't produced by WWE Films, but even though it's as routine as you can get, it does provide a few surprising bouts of stylishness that wake the viewer up.
Instead of their number-one superstar, John Cena, the WWE has chosen to build this sequel around one of their young up-and-coming stars, Ted Dibiase Jr., but whatever his talents as a wrestler, he proves to be one of the most wooden, boring action heroes you've ever seen! The film's yet another stale carbon copy of "Die Hard", but perhaps because it was filmed in Thailand, this is occasionally directed like it was Tony Jaa film; there a couple of impressive action scenes filmed in long unbroken steadicam shots, and at least one pretty cool fight scene that prevent this from being a complete waste of time.
