Review of The Many Saints of Newark (2021) by Re_Fan62 — 08 Oct 2021
This movie is a disappointment jumbled mess. This is not even a proper prequel story to Tony soprano as the marketing said it would be. The movie told us stuff we already knew about in the show. The relationship between Tony and dicki isn’t really there all that much.
It’s mostly on screen for a little bit and that’s it. There’s nothing major or important about their relationship. Also, they retconned dicki death. The movie added new characters that had nothing to do with the original show and not enough focus on them whatsoever.
The character development is really bad. The pacing is all over the place. Nothing interesting whatsoever in this movie. The movie also tries to add diversity in there just for the sake of it. The sopranos never focused on black people.
We also, don’t see Tony’s rage or hate for black people. It’s pretty much ignored in the movie he acts likes hes perfectly fine with a black person in the movie. I’m black btw but it’s not supposed to shy away from what Italians are really like The movie also jumps around way too much instead of focusing on one scene.
I don’t even know what was the point to this movie, it’s complete waste of two hours. Not really focusing on Tony or any other important characters we’ve loved in the show. Complete and utter disappointment is what it is.
You’re better off just sticking to the show and don’t waste money watching this movie in theaters. Wait to rent it or just watch on HBO max. 0/10 trash movie.
