Review of The Many Saints of Newark (2021) by Shoulderoforion — 06 Oct 2021
This was barely watchable. Sold as a prequel, it was almost entirely the story of Dikie Moltasanti (Christopher's father), with some formative Tony Soprano sprinkled in. If it wasn't over the top trying to shoehorn in every reference from the TV series it could, it was just badly written, and badly cast.
Don't know why everyone's cooing about Gandolfini, other than being stocky he brought very little in terms of presence to this thing. Whatever David Chase was trying to go for here, it was a disappointing pointless miss.
