Review of The Manitou (1978) by Jules M — 15 May 2009
There are films from the 70s that are both fabulous and great horror films. This is not one of them.
The acting is uneven at best, the production is unremarkable. The plot is not at all engaging - a 400 year old "medicine man" seeks to be reincarnated via supernatural tumor in a young woman's body. This would be much more effective if the young woman's character was well defined and sympathetic. As is, the story is mostly secondary to the rather fabulous display of 70s style and sensibilities.
