Review of The Manchurian Candidate (2004) by Jay R — 16 Aug 2009
The plot is a little too crazy to be considered amazing, but the direction is very eerie. The actors actually speak directly into the camera during conversations and tense moments. It is as if they are talking to you which I thought was neat.
Denzel Washington is great because he takes a different role than his usual cool guy slick character. It was strange watching Meryl Streep's performance because it bore an uncanny resemblance to Hilary Clinton.
The movie succeeds thanks to it's great direction and disturbing performances, but the plot could've been a little simpler and not so barbaric. Thumbs up!
