Review of The Manchurian Candidate (1962) by Sonia G — 26 Jul 2008
I never thought that Angela Lansbury would become one of my fav villain, but after watching movie, I had to find her a spot in my top 10. She's absolutely brilliant! Good thriller set on a fictional political drama.
You can also look at it as a satire of the cold war, a fictional justification for paranoia. However, I did not understand the character played by Vivian Leigh, she is an outsider to the plot and doesn't serve any purpose, it is almost as she is there to feel the blanks.
I think the original is much better than the recent remake with Denzel Washington. There is an atmosphere, a tension that isn't captured in the 2004 version.
