Review of The Man Without a Past (2002) by Dag Ove H — 02 May 2009
This is one of the very best movies I've had the honor of seeing. A charming story, paradoxically both dremlike and harshly realistic at the same time. And that story lives and breaths with a tender visual look backed by a kick-ass soundrack. The characters are restrained and honestly quite unrealistic, yet they convey a strong presence and authenticity. This one really is a film where seemingly opposing elements combine into a lyrically harmonious whole.
"The Man Without a Past" is one of those respectable fictional pieces that restore your belief in humanity and our cabability for good. It works as a social commentary as well as something even more meaningful and remarkable. And all this is delivered in an ironically laconic and laid back way, which just makes this perfect!
