Review of The Man with Two Brains (1983) by Jason J — 19 Jun 2010
Hard to believe that many moons ago Steve Martin was actually a very funny man and this movie is a great example of his best work. A zany comedy about a brain surgeon Dr Hfuhruhurr who knocks a woman down with his car, falls in love and marries her but she's in reality a scheming gold digger who's only with him for his money! On a trip to Austria, Dr Hfuhruhurr comes across a mad scientist who is keeping brains alive in a glass jar and that only he can hear a disembodied female voice coming from one of the brains which he falls in love with!!
I love this kind of crazy movie. The jokes come at you at such a pace that you might want to see it twice to catch all of them. Probably Steve Martin's funniest comedy alongside The Jerk which was another of his early classics. It's just an over-the-top slapstick farce with some wonderful comedy set-pieces which work brilliantly. The 90 mins running time is just full of continious laughs - visual and wordplay. One of the best comedies you're ever likely to see if you're a fan of movies such as Airplane. Highly recommended.
