Review of The Man with Two Brains (1983) by Johnny T — 24 Aug 2011
This is the most assured and hilarious of the three Martin-Carl Reiner collaborations. Far from avoiding the tackier implications of this concept, the film revels in them like a puppy in clover; Martin's delivery of the line, "Into the mud, slime queen!" is alone nearly worth the price of admission. Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr (for a sample of this movie's longest-running gag, try pronouncing that name aloud) has been under a strain. How sweet it is to find a movie in which the hero, having lusted after purely carnal pleasures for much of its length, finally falls in love with a woman's mind. The Man with Two Brains, which never ceases to amuse, is at its best when most outrageous. Pure escapist madness. And a helluvalota fun.
VERDICT: "Matinée" - (Mixed reaction). These kinds of movies are usually movies that had some good things, but some bad things kept it from being amazing. This rating says to pay matinée prices to see at a theatre, buy an ex-rental or a cheap price of the DVD to own.
