Review of The Man with the Iron Fists (2012) by Sol C — 12 Oct 2013
RZA is definitely an aficionado of kung-fu films and Asian action cinema, though this film somewhat reminded me of Rob Zombie's "House of 1,000 Corpses," where a first time filmmaker with a clear love and appreciation for a genre had a bazillion ideas built up over years and tried to get them all into one film, the end result of which is somewhat of a muddled, though still enjoyable, mess.
If you are a fan of kung-fu films, you'll dig RZA's many homages to various films and different kung-fu sub genres. The fights scenes were choreographed by Jet Li's frequent director/fight choreographer, Corey Yuen, which alone makes the film worth watching for fans of the genre.
Probably the best Hollywood approximation of a Hong Kong kung-fu film to date, looking a lot more like "Once Upon a Time in China" than it does "Big Trouble In Little China.".
