Review of The Man with the Iron Fists (2012) by Ming Siu G — 17 Mar 2013
Always kind of been a sucker for Kung-Fu movies, or ones that remind me of such, so naturally, I was excited to see this for that reason and multiple others. Secondly, I wanted to see it due to the cast it has: Russell Crowe, Lucy Liu, Dave Bautista, Rick Yune, and RZA (Who also makes his directing debut).
Thirdly, it is written by one of my favorites (Eli Roth), and is produced by Quentin Tarantino, who is becoming one of the biggest names in cinema the past 10 years. Well, with all of that said, I was slightly bored, and begging for more throughout the film.
Yes, there is some good action, some great fights, and lots and lots of sexual interactions, especially with a quite over-weight Crowe. Needless to say that the movie missed that spark that everyone kind of looks for in Kung-Fu, or that big fight sequence that'll make you watch it over and over, frankly, there is neither in this film.
The storyline is basic, and that is going to happen in Kung-Fu, but I just was a tad bored, and let down. The fact that it leads into a sequel is either going to really hurt this film franchise, or help it, because I'm thinking it can only get better from here.
3/5 JD.
