Review of The Man with the Iron Fists (2012) by Tazio G — 23 Mar 2013
Jackknife: I always bring a gun to a knife fight.
"Seven clans, a fortune in gold. Let the battle begin.".
The only reason I really saw this was because of the men behind it. Presenter Quentin Tarantino, co-writer Eli Roth, and musical god RZA in his first directing debut. There's nothing Oscar worthy or breathtaking to be found in The Man With The Iron Fists. RZA simply creates sort of a retro/homage Kung-Fu movie providing his very own touches from everything to the story, action, cast, production design, and soundtrack. Of course it helps when you have Tarantino and Roth as your buddies. In his first debut, RZA does a surprisingly decent job. We're not here for the story or acting with either of them being special. Both are rather silly and entertaining at the same time. Russell Crowe gives a fun performance and probably the best thing about the cast besides a good Lucy Liu also. My favorite character was easily RZA as the blacksmith. He's badass in general and had an interesting arc. Where the movie really excels is in the action and soundtrack. The action kicks ass with spiffy cinematography, cool costumes/settings, and one rocking soundtrack to support it. Fun fun overall.
