Review of The Man with the Iron Fists (2012) by Lewis E — 31 Mar 2013
There lies something strong within this film but the amateur aura, most likely brought by the forgiveable inexperience of RZA as a director, seems to just about overshadow the positive features. Using a term that my brother mentioned that best describes it, the structure is "chopped up".
This consists of rushed storytelling that makes the meaning behind the extravagant confrontations between rival gangs minimal and reduced my emotional connection with RZA as the main protagonist. It is basically a more violent version of 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' when it comes to the action that should impress most people although the rapid changing of camera shots at times makes it hard for viewers to see martial arts moves in greater detail.
The three finale battles were weak and echoed a display of laziness on the choreography if you compare it to the likes of 'The Raid'. Byron Mann, or Silver Lion, was the best person out of this film, encapsulating his character's humorous but deceitful nature.
Russell Crowe was a nice addition to the cast as well so these two kind of made up for RZA who frequently looked out of place and that's without the help of being the only black man a Chinese village.
Is a short one and there will be a chance that you will like this blood-fest more than me so by all means rent.
