Review of The Man with the Iron Fists (2012) by Matthew K — 10 Nov 2013
Is it a great movie? No. The acting varies, especially from the RZA, who tries to portray the protagonist as vengeful toward the end, but looks less infuriated with his circumstances and more like he's zoning out.
The action is great, and some of the visuals are beautiful, but the RZA's direction does seem a bit rough, especially the editing. The story is also all over the place, with little character development.
The film is still an enjoyable romp, though. It's a fitting homage to the martial arts films of the '70s, and Crowe is magnificent and enjoyable to watch as Jack Knife. A surprisingly enjoyable film despite its many, many flaws.
