Review of The Man with the Golden Gun (1974) by Aaron W — 12 Oct 2013
If you don't like double entedres, maybe you shouldn't be watching a Bond film, let alone reviewing one...
Revisiting this movie, I am surprised to find that Moore is not only the best looking Bond I have seen, but also the funniest, and at times (a very big surprise) nastiest.
Too many reviews here compare this to Connery's films. It's now time to compare it to ALL the Bond films, those that have followed too, and see that Golden Gun has a great plot with some lovely twists, amazing sets, a sense of fun and humour, and yet still it is infused with the deadly danger that makes Bond exciting. Moore is as close as you can get to Fleming's Bond, as much charisma of Brosnan, as brutal here as Connery, much more beautiful than Craig, gadgets, girls. The only thing that lets this film down slightly is the "showtime" style of the theme song, though the score is actually quite magnificent and more than makes up for it.
