Review of The Man with the Golden Gun (1974) by Sean K — 05 Nov 2012
I told myself a million times, how can I like this Bond film? For all it's cheesiness (the car jump and horrid noise that followed still leaves me a bit queezy), camp, and overall lacking production, I just felt as if Golden Gun was definitely one of Bond's weaker outings. In the end though, I can't help but smile at the array of kookiness that went down in this messy Bond flick. Will it entertain? Undoubtedly so. Will it shock? Most likely not, unless the third nipped Scaramenga is that big of a shock factor. Is it memorable? To some odd notion, yes.
Overall, The Man With The Golden Gun is a tacky Bond film that somewhat jeopardized many promising notions (A man with a golden gun played by Christopher Lee?!! Greatness right? Not so much). In the end though, the adventure is worth taking for it's fun entertainment value, interesting plot, and Roger Moore's signature flair and debonair take on the character. But please folks, don't expect the film the blow you away by any standards...
