Review of The Man with the Golden Gun (1974) by Christian M — 14 Jan 2013
I have seen only 3 maybe 4 of Roger Moore's Bonds and while I like Moore himself, his movies are my least favorites. Working my way through the Bond 50 set, there are still about 10 of the 22 I still have yet to see, most of them are Moore's.
But I can say after seeing the Man With the Golden Gun, it is my fave of the Moore ones I have seen. Connery/Craig/Dalton were darker, grittier Bond flicks, while Moore were much more cheeky and campy.
Brosnan falls somewhere in the middle of these. What I enjoy about this one are threefold 1) some impressive action sequences, including one hell of car chase 2) Both Bond girls are sexy as hell and 3) Love the supporting cast.
Q and M have some good moments with each other as well as Bond. I barely remember Fantasy Island but what I do remember, I was a Tattoo fan(De Plane Boss, De Plane is here), Herve Villechaize is terrific as the villainous sidekick Nick Nack, the defiant inspiration behind Mini Me in Austin Powers.
Which brings me to the big bad himself, the golden gun wielding assassin played by Christopher Lee. C-Lee rules, plain and simple. He is part of 3 of the greatest franchises of all time LOTR, Bond, and The Wars.
Let's not forget the classic horror movies he was a part of as well. The man is an Icon and he is fun to watch matching wits with 007. Story is so so and they are light on gadgets but still as fun as Bond as many.
