Review of The Man with the Golden Gun (1974) by Nick D — 01 Aug 2013
Moore #2 and it's a pretty good flick, although it lacks in certain "Bond" requirements.
Christopher Lee is awesome as the bad guy and the story is above average for Bond movies. Awesome car chase scene where Bond jumps a canal with a twist (I remembered that being in "LALD" - also with the stereotyped Louisiana sheriff who is on vacation in China(?) If that is never in a Bond movie again, it won't hurt my feelings. Moving the setting from Jamaica (in the book) to the Far East wasn't too bad of a choice.
Watching all of the Bonds in order, it's clear that by the early 70's the voluptuous and curvy "Bond Girls" of "Dr. No" and "Diamonds are Forever" are being replaced with skinnier women - this is disappointing. Ms. Goodnight is pretty darn thin (Damn you, Twiggy!) No super-car and the theme song is mediocre are two minor negatives in an otherwise very satisfying chapter in the Bond series.
