Review of The Man with the Golden Gun (1974) by Donald S — 13 Oct 2008
While "Live and Let Die" was more of a Blaxploitation movie than a Bond movie, "The Man with The Golden Gun" was following the format of another popular format of the 70s, the kung fu movies.
One of the worst Bond girls in the series was Mary Goodnight, much like Willie in "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" she was incompetent, whiny, and just plain annoying. J.W. Pepper returns for some reason, I guess for some reason audiences love loud annoying rednecks (this might explain the success of not one,but two Larry the Cable Guy movies).
What really makes this movie interesting is that Maud Adams, who plays Scaramanga's assistant, returns in the series to play Octopussy. The car chase is very exciting, however someone thought it was a great idea to put a slide whistle during the corkscrew scene, thus playing it off as just silly.
