Review of The Man Who Would Be King (1975) by Alan W — 30 Sep 2010
Never seen this before until I caught this at a NFT showing after a talk with Sir Michael. Most fascinating stuff, goes to show that they dont make them like they used to. Most impressive is the cinematic scope of the photography and the use of extras (no CGIs here!).
The story is a moral tale with a tinge of horror. Quite apt and well presented in a new digital print which, a few scratches here and there aside, does the film justice. A lovely find. Trivial quip: why does Christopher Plummer's Kipling looks like Ned Flanders here??
