Review of The Man Who Wasn't There (2001) by Brian M — 01 Feb 2008
The Coen's best film. Works so well because of the simplicity. Aside from the incredible style and look of Deakins' cinematography, the film hinges on two things story and character. When the story is in full swing it is never less than intriguing and when it takes a back seat we are given characters we care about.
Thanks to Thornton's restraint and simpathetic performance, Ed Crane could be doing anything and I would be willing to watch.
