Review of The Man Who Wasn't There (2001) by Jim M — 19 Jul 2008
Santa Rosa, Califronia, 1949: In the heady years following the Second World War, a small town barber (Billy Bob Thornton), seizes an opprotunity to break free of his passive existence by partnering with a newly arrived entrapreneuir (Jon Polito), but to raise the funds needed he will have to blackmail his wifes (Francis McDormand) boss/lover (James Gandolfini), but things don't go as planned when blackmail turns to murder and his wife takes the fall.
Throwback to the Noir films of the 40's and 50's with a few modern touches, this is a cinephiles film all the way, flawlessly shot, written and acted (Tony Shalhoub especially).
