Review of The Man Who Wasn't There (2001) by Amanda C — 20 Jan 2011
This is a much more subdued and lyrical film than the Coen brothers usually make. While it defiantly has its moments and is wonderfully constructed, the edge that make the Coen brothers films so great is missing.
I thought that the Coen brothers and film noir were a match made in heaven, but the noir style seems to have taken away the best qualities of their films. That said there are some great moments in the film, most notably when they somehow manage to work alien conspiracy into the plot and manage to make it plausible.
