Review of The Man Who Wasn't There (2001) by Lyle R — 05 Jun 2011
Beautifully shot and well-acted tribute to 1940s black and white film noir, the story of a small town barber whose efforts to escape his boring life through blackmail takes the viewer through a well-crafted journey where actions have unintended consequences with people who often aren't who they seem.
An imaginative tale with just the right touch of the Coen Brothers quirkiness and black humor which is the hallmark of all their movies. This film isn't as well known as others on their impressive resume, but it's among their best.
