Review of The Man Who Sued God (2001) by Scott P — 22 May 2007
Connolly is watchable in just about anything, and his charisma carries this script on its back. It has good ideas about insurance companies and the use of God's name as an excuse for profit, but it fumbles in the execution.
I kept waiting for it to finally step up and do something, to let Connolly loose to go on a rampage, or brilliantly cross-examine witnesses in court. It never really did. There were a few funny moments, and I came to enjoy the chronology/editing style (though it is a bit jarring at first), but overall, this movie could have done much better with such a great concept.
Ultimately, it plays it safe with a cockatoo flying through a shattered stain glass window. Ugh.
