Review of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) by Joshua B — 18 Jul 2007
Wayne.
Stewart.
Marvin.
Wow. What a story. It may be a John Ford film, but it is not about the big elaborate scenery. In fact, it is clearly a soundstage western, which I usually hate. Ford proves his skills by making this character study work.
If you have seen open range. Costner and Duvall are the bad guys in this film. The townfolk want to put up barb wire to save their farms. Stewart is for it, as is Wayne. Lee Marvin and his gang of free grazers are out to do anything to stop the fences. This is a must see for a fan of Ford, Stewart, Wayne, or westerns.
It will make you think.
