Review of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) by Pat M — 07 Feb 2008
I just finished watching THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE. I really enjoyed this film. It stars John Wayne and James Stewart. Both give great performances and have made a name for themselves in the Western genre. It is the story of two men, one is a respected gunslinger in a small town. The other is a lawyer who doesn't know how to use a gun when he comes to the town. He is beaten by an outlaw named Liberty Valance. As the movie goes along, John Wayne teaches Stewart's character how to use a gun and defend himself and Stewart teaches the townspeople the value of reading and writing by starting up a school to educate them.
The film is very well done. The lighting and acting in this are remarkable. The story is just as good as well. It starts out with Senator Stoddard (Stewart), reminiscing about how he came to the town and met Tom Doniphon (Wayne). It goes into a flashback about how the two men defeated Liberty Valance. This has definately become one of my favorites already. If you got the time for a good movie that you will really enjoy, check this one out.
