Review of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) by Missa S — 26 May 2010
*****SPOILER ALERT*****.
This just goes to show you what a stand up man John Wayne is. It's the classic story of two men in love with the same woman, and the woman caught in the middle, of course. When Liberty Valance's presence becomes more threatening, in a shoot-out, James Stewart finally finds that backbone and fires, killing Liberty Valance. Which boosts him up in credibility and town presence. But unknown to James, it was John Wayne who fired a simultanoues shot, but being the man that he is, he lets James get the credit, the reputation and the woman. I can't help but feel admiration for the Duke in this role.
