Review of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) by Patrick M — 16 Jul 2008
What drove me to this one obviously was the cast. James Stewart (Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, It's a Wonderful Life), John Wayne (Stagecoach, The Searchers), Lee Marvin (Cat Ballou, The Dirty Dozen), and one of my favorite supporting actresses: Vera Miles (The Searchers, Psycho).
Not to mention director John Ford (The Grapes of Wrath, The Searchers). Probably the most interesting thing about this movie, though, was the whole Stewart vs. Wayne thing. James Stewart believed in putting Liberty Valance (Marvin) behind bars and Wayne kept saying you had to be quicker on the draw in order to get back at Valance.
Lee Marvin was a fantastic villain..
